This work is based on the traditional modes/scales of Armenia. 'Duduk' is the name of the Armenian oboe that is normally accompanied by drones. Erkoreka cleverly creates the illusion of the drone's presence and uses techniques to match the saxophone's timbre as close to that of the mellow and mournful duduk as possible.

This is a version for string quartet of Erkoreka's saxophone quartet Duduk II. It is the last of the four Duduk pieces which are based on the traditional modes/scales of Armenia.

In Armenia, the clarinet is considered a popular instrument. Almost all of our duduk players also play the clarinet. In some villages, they call it gralnet and they call the player gralnetist.
