Philip Sparke was so inspired and moved by his first visit to New York, that he had to capture the moment in one of his compositions. At first a general picture of New York is presented as all the sights and sounds are taken it. Eventually the composer finds himself in Manhattan. Walking along a street, music can be heard wafting from one of the jazz-clubs. This musical representation of personal impressions creates an extremely memorable work.

Zu den Impressionen, die Philip Sparke einfing, gehören das gesamte Stadtbild, aufregende erste Erfahrungen in Manhattan, eine schnelle Straßenszene“ und Musik, die beim Vorübergehen aus einem der vielen Jazzclubs dringt. Positiv bestätigte Klischees und ganz persönliche Eindrücke stecken in dieser musikalischen Beschreibung eines Wochenendes in New York.

Questa composizione riunisce una successione d’impressioni vissute durante un week-end nella “Grande mela”. Il brano inizia con una descrizione del paesaggio urbano. La trama continua su un’aria di blues, tranquillo e disinvolto. Un passaggio rapido interrompe la tranquillit : la musica evoca una scena in una delle avenue più traffi cate di New York. Dal centro dell’orchestra arriva una melodia travolgente: le porte di un club di jazz sono rimaste aperte. New York non finisce mai di sorprendere.
