Gavotte In D was first written by the French composer Francois Joseph Gossec (1734-1829) for Flute and Strings. It was arranged for solo Violin and Piano by Emil Kross (1852-1917) in 1908. It has since become one of the composer’s most popular chamber works with countless arrangements for various instruments.The violinist music editor and composer Emil Kross was one of the most prolific editors and arrangers of his generation. He is best remembered for his opus 40 The Art of Bowing a pedagogical work which has served countless violinists for over a century.
