'Ruht Wohl' is the final Chorus from the St. John Passion and takes the form of a Da Capo Aria with opening ritornello.This beautiful music cri de coeur for the human heart and spirit comes at a dark point in the Passion story yet there is constant play of light and colour hinting at the hope and renewal of Easter. Sweeping melodic lines are a gift for cello and the arrangement retains all counterpoint dramatic episode formal symmetry of the original. Technically accessible to Grade 6 & 7 students 'Ruht Wohl' makes an impressive concert item for Grade 8 and above.
