The most popular of Barnby's partsongs Sweet and Low was first published in 1865. Scored for SATB choir with Piano reduction it is a setting of an extract from The Princess a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Sir Joseph Barnby (1838-1896) was an English composer and conductor. He was a chorister at York Minster before studying at the RAM. He later became director of Music at Eton and Principal of theGuildhall School of Music.
