Horn, Paul (Arr.). Par GRAUN CARL HEINRICH. Among the sacred compositions of Carl Heinrich Graun, who served for many years as the Court Music Director of Frederick II in Berlin, two works have attained a prominent position: the passion cantata Der Tod Jesu from 1755, and the eleven-movement Te Deum, which was written in 1757 to celebrate a military victory. Both works belonged to the repertoires of many singing academies and oratorio societies well into the 19th century and today they have been rediscovered and are generating renewed interest among musicians. After a long absence the Te Deum, as a vocal score in a new critical edition, is once again available.
