Par MACONCHY ELIZABETH. Two Carols by Elizabeth Maconchy comprises two songs for unaccompanied upper voices: I sing of a maiden and This day, both originally conceived in 1966, with words from fifteenth-century texts. While contrasting in character, both embody a richly expressive harmony, with opportunity in each for the upper soprano part to be sung solo (or by a small group of voices, if preferred). Equally, the composer notes that I sing of a maiden’s tenor part may be sung solo; the tenor line here is also suitable for alto voice, making both carols accessible to SSA ensembles.
The Choral Signature Series introduces a wealth of new or recently written choral music to choirs in search of fresh repertoire. The series draws in a rich diversity of contemporary composers and includes both lighter and more challenging works, offering a thrilling array of varied styles. / Choral Music / Répertoire / Voix Hautes
