Written in 1994 by minimalist composer Steve Reich, Nagoya Marimbas, for two Marimbas, reflects the style of some of the composer?s earlier compositions from the 1960s and ?70s, in as far as there are repeating patternsplayed on both marimbas, one or more beats out of phase, creating a series of two part unison canons. However, these patterns are more melodically developed, change frequently and each is usually repeated no more than three times, which is typical of Reich?s more recent works. This highly exciting piece will provide an enjoyable challenge to accomplished and virtuosic Marimba players. / Percussion / Boosey
