He took his pedagogic responsibilities very seriously and consequently devoted a considerable part of his life to his students. In 1901 Granados founded the Academia Granados. His goal was to develop it into an important educational institution, and thus he insisted on incorporating the latest methods of musical education into the curriculum, which included classes in piano, violin, chamber music, solfege, music history, theory, harmony and composition. In addition, with a view to educating the audience of the future, Granados organised numerous concerts and lectures. Granados served as Director of the Academia Granados. The first Assistant Director was Domingo Mas i Serracant (1866-1944), a position that was taken later by Granados' leading disciple, Frank Marshall (1883-1957). After Granados' death Marshall took over the directorship of the Academia and changed the name to the present one-Academia Marshall. The current Director is Alicia de Larrocha. |
