This book is designed to make the reader aware of some of the possible rhythmic patterns that can be used as 'fills' or 'breaks' when rock tunes are played with the basic triplet ride beat. All breaks are preceded by one measure of ad lib rock time. The ad lib time has been written with eighth-note triplets above a single ledger line. "X's" are used for noteheads to denote the ride cymbal. The break itself has been notated with regular noteheads below the ledger line. Once the reader masters the rhythmic pattern of each break, he should try to play the break between the snare and tom toms.
